The Dhahirah Region
The Dhahirah region, with its rich history, enviable agricultural resources and tourist potential, has made tremendous progress in recent years. It consists of a semi-desert plain which descends from the southern slopes of the Western Hajar range towards the Empty Quarter desert. The mountain of Jabal Kawr marks its eastern boundary with the Dakhiliyah region, while the Empty Quarter lies to the west and the Wusta region to the south. In ancient times the Dhahirah was known as Tawam and also Al Jaw.

The Dhahirah region, formerly at the crossroads of the centuries-old Arabian caravan routes
The region has 3 wilayats Ibri, Yanqul and Dhank and, according to 2007 estimates, has a population of 148,520. Its most distinctive features are its fertile areas of agricultural production and its location at the crossroads of the centuries-old Arabian caravan routes. The Dhahirah region has several oil and gas fields and has benefited from a generous share of Oman’s development projects.
